Introduction - Census of Government Employees 2006-07

1. INTRODUCTION:

The Annual Census of Government employees with 31^st March as the reference date is being conducted by the Directorate in order to assess the trends in the volume and other related characteristics of employment in the Government/public sector of the Union Territory of Puducherry. The Census provides a complete account of regular State/Central/autonomous/Local Bodies employees who hold civilian posts on the reference date .It also presents the status of regular employees viz. Gazetted and Non-Gazetted.

2. SCOPE, COVERAGE, CONCEPTS AND DEFINITION:

The census covers all regular employees working in various Departments/Offices of the Union Territory Government, and Central Government with Gazetted and Non-Gazetted categories and regular and non-regular employees in Local Bodies and Autonomous Bodies as on 31^st March 2007.

All those who are on the pay rolls of the establishment have been taken as regular employees.  The staff paid from contingencies, work charged personnell and those employed on daily wages including workers paid for 25days are classified as Non-regular employees.

3. METHOD OF APPROACH:

The data are collected from all State/Central Government Departments, Local Bodies, and Autonomous Bodies on a set of prescribed forms.
