Directorate of Economics and Statistics is the nodal agency for co-ordination and promotion of statistical activities in the U.T of Puducherry, constantly endeavoring to collect, compile and disseminate statistical information to meet the short-term, medium-term and long-term policies and plan needs of the Government. I am happy that the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Puducherry is bringing out its Annual Publication entitled “Puducherry at a Glance 2011”. The publication presents a profile of key socio-economic activities and achievements in different sectors of the Union Territory Economy for the year 2010-11. The publication also contains socio-economic indicators, which are essential for formation of social policy, decision making and for evaluation of the impact of various schemes.

I am sure that the present issue of the publication “Puducherry at a Glance- 2011” would serve as a good reference book to Administrators, Planners, Research Scholars and Academicians and all data users who are interested in the developmental progress of the economy of the Union Territory of Puducherry.
